Howard Tang – Manager

Having spent most of his childhood in a restaurant, it didn’t come as much of a surprise to his parents that Howard ended up as a restaurant ninja. He tried writing code, bad poetry and terrible jokes before realizing there was something missing in his life. It was the draw of late nights, good company, great food and strong drinks that eventually brought him back into the fold of the hospitality industry. It might be hard to notice during the controlled chaos of a full dining room or while crafting dozens of cocktails, but he’s doing what he loves and he’s having a great time doing it.

Bryon Deisher – Manager

Bryon has worked at Mother’s Bistro & Bar on and off since he was eighteen years old…nearly a third of his life! Starting as a busser, Bryon has worked his way through the restaurant until becoming the excellent manager that he’s been for the last five years. Born & raised in the Portland area, Bryon has always loved the many aspects of living in the Northwest. According to him, brewing isn’t done anywhere better than here, so more often than not a brew is part of the equation. He spends much of his free time exploring the Gorge or the Coast, making sure to stop frequently for a local pint or two. A few years ago, you could find him playing music at some of the Portland area venues and on the road touring the country with a couple different bands. Now he’s more a fan than a participant, keeping his focus on the restaurant business, and making guests happy at Mother’s with his warm smile and cheerful attitude.

Jay Davis – Chef de Cuisine

Originally from Auburn, California, Jay migrated to the Northwest 12 years ago and fell in love with the flavors and feel of Portland. He proudly sports the iconic “Portland Oregon” sign as a tattoo on his forearm. Before joining the team at Mother’s, Jay was the sous chef at The Globe and Henry’s 12th Street Tavern. Since the age of 15 Jay has been behind the scenes cooking in restaurants with experience in not only “scratch” cooking but also French and Asian cuisines. When he is not on the line at Mother’s his favorite hobby is barbecuing.
