The foodie’s guide to seeing Portland

If there’s one thing hipsters know, it’s food. Food that looks good, food that tastes fresh, food that’s sustainable, food that brings people together … you name it, those bearded, beanie-clad cycling-enthusiasts got it covered.

So, it’s really no surprise that hipster mecca – Portland, Oregon – is a foodie’s paradise. There are a lot of things that make the culinary scene special, but the best thing is this city’s ability to deliver high quality eats on the cheap. And, thankfully, there’s ample opportunity to work up an appetite with a little physical activity and a lot of sightseeing.

So, pack your bags, pre-empt your endless feasting with a juice cleanse (or don’t – hanger is real, and chewing is good for you), and get ready to take a gastronomic adventure that you won’t stop drooling over.

The most important meal of the day should take place at Mother’s Bistro & Bar, the place that cleverly made ‘Mother Food’ – a.k.a. the kind of comforting meals you dream of when you’re feeling a little homesick – their signature approach. Locals call breakfast here ‘heaven,’ and, with an extensive menu offering omelets, buttermilk biscuits topped with country sausage gravy and from-scratch fluffy pancakes, it’s not hard to see why.
