Despite its big January move, this downtown Portland institution will feel familiar to folks who lined up for years for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner just a few blocks away, with the signature gold touches still in place on mirrors and crystal chandeliers. But the new space feels positively vast by comparison and offers plenty of room to wait for a table (20 minutes on a weekday morning) and a chance to peek into the kitchen as bakers prep treats for later (order a house-made pop tart to go). The popular cornflake-dipped challah French toast ($9 full or $5.50 half) is still on the menu, but the eggs Benedicts are a no show. Instead, try the cheesy, bacon goodness of breakfast nachos ($12 full, $7 half) or the wild salmon hash ($16 full, $9 half) that comes topped with a perfectly fried egg over creamy country-fried potatoes.
